Communities include people of Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Indian, Arab, Turkish, Kurdish, African, White British, Eastern European and mixed heritage backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muslims live in every region of the UK and are increasingly represented in professions that shape everyday life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Representation Across Key UK Professions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most striking findings from workforce diversity data is the strong representation of Muslims in healthcare and regulated professions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pharmacy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Data from the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) shows that Muslims are highly represented within pharmacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In England, the most commonly declared religion among pharmacists was Muslim at <strong>18.6%<\/strong>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means Muslims are represented in pharmacy at almost three times their proportion of the wider population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pharmacists play a vital role in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Community healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medication safety<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public health advice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vaccination programmes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting patients during Ramadan and other faith-related healthcare needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Optometry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The General Optical Council\u2019s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion monitoring report found that Muslim representation among optometrists and dispensing opticians continues to rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proportion of Muslim registrants increased to approximately <strong>21.1% in 2024<\/strong>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means around one in five professionals in the optical sector identify as Muslim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medicine and Dentistry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muslims are also strongly represented in medicine and dentistry across the NHS and private healthcare sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While exact UK-wide percentages vary depending on specialty and training stage, NHS recruitment and workforce datasets consistently show significant Muslim participation in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>General Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ophthalmology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obstetrics and Gynaecology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Surgery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oncology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency Medicine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These professions are central to the UK\u2019s healthcare infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NHS Workforce<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NHS England workforce data shows Muslims make up a substantial proportion of NHS staff in many regions, particularly in urban areas with diverse populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muslim doctors, nurses, pharmacists, healthcare assistants, scientists, managers and allied health professionals were among those who played critical roles during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This contribution often came despite increased experiences of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Islamophobia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workplace discrimination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Burnout<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disproportionate COVID-19 risk exposure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>British Muslims contribute not only economically, but socially and culturally to the fabric of UK society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Why Representation Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When communities see themselves reflected in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>healthcare,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>education,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leadership,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>governance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>media,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>policing,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and public institutions,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>it strengthens trust, belonging and social cohesion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, representation should never become tokenism. True inclusion means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>fair progression opportunities,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>psychologically safe workplaces,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>freedom from
