Behind every statistic is a young Black boy mislabelled as dangerous, a Muslim student followed home, or a mother strip-searched in front of her child. These experiences are not isolated, they are systemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Stop and Search<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Black individuals are 3.7 times more likely to be stopped and searched than White individuals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The stop and search rate per 1,000 people is:<ul><li>\u00a0\u00a0Black: 24.5<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>\u00a0\u00a0Pakistani: 10.3<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>\u00a0\u00a0Mixed: 9.9<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0White: 5.9<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only 5% of stop and searches result in reduced violence, compared to 21\u201333% reductions from community-based alternatives like mentoring and intervention schemes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Use of Force<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Black men are 3.3 times more likely to experience use of force.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Police are 7.5 times more likely to point a firearm at a Black man than at a White man.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These encounters often escalate rather than de-escalate, traumatising communities and undermining trust.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Adultification and Disbelief<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Black children are routinely seen as older, less innocent, and more culpable resulting in higher levels of physical intervention and even strip-searches without safeguarding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Child Q case (2020) revealed how bias and failure of duty can combine to inflict long-term harm on children\u2019s mental health and sense of safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Algorithmic Policing and Facial Recognition<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Facial recognition systems used in South Wales and London have shown false positive rates of up to 90%, disproportionately flagging Black and Brown individuals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Predictive policing algorithms built on historically biased data reinforce pre-existing racial disparities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0Structural Racism in Policing Across the UK<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, structurally embedded racism is evident in multiple forms\u2014disproportionate stop and search, biased tech tools, illegal data profiling, and ineffective oversight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Does This Keep Happening?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Bias at Every Level:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Confirmation Bias:<\/strong> Officers may interpret neutral behaviour as suspicious when seen through a racialised lens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adultification Bias: <\/strong>Black and Brown children are misperceived as adults, stripping them of protection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cultural Blind Spots:<\/strong> Misunderstanding community behaviours or traditions leads to over-policing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Lack of Oversight:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action plans exist, but inconsistent data, weak accountability, and political interference undermine their success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Tech-Driven Discrimination:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without rigorous ethical scrutiny, technology such as predictive policing tools is simply scaling up systemic racism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00a0Impact on People, Not Just Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The impact of disproportionate policing is not abstract.
