Alongside the film comes <strong>groundbreaking new research<\/strong> that shines a stark light on the compounded injustice Black women face when trying to report abuse and access support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>A Decade of Listening, A Moment for Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To mark a decade of tireless advocacy, Sistah Space\u2019s 2025 research collates the lived experiences of over <strong>2,200 Black women<\/strong> across England and Wales. The findings are sobering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>97%<\/strong> of Black women said they <em>do not feel confident<\/em> that reporting abuse would lead to fair and supportive treatment from the police or other violence against women and girls (VAWG) agencies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>87%<\/strong> reported that statutory agencies were <em>not responsive enough<\/em> when they disclosed abuse.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>76%<\/strong> said they <em>did not report their abuse<\/em>, often due to fears of being judged or stereotyped.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>One respondent from Southeast England shared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThey make it hard for you to get justice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another, from London, added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cSocial services weaponised my blackness, feeding into racist tropes of emotional or aggression.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the reality for far too many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Intersectionality Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This research doesn\u2019t just present data. It tells a story of trauma, erasure, and the resilience of Black women who continue to be unseen by systems meant to protect them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign\u2019s film, <em>Hidden in Plain Sight<\/em>, offers a visceral, sensitive portrayal of what it means to be Black, female, and silenced in Britain today. It is a tribute to the strength of survivors and a demand for services that are not just trauma-informed, but <strong>culturally competent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cThis project is about more than storytelling,\u201d<\/strong> says Louise Clarke, founder of Four Letters London and director of the film. \u201cIt\u2019s about honouring the women it represents and ensuring their experiences are seen with the dignity and nuance they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Singer and activist <strong>FKA Twigs<\/strong>, a staunch advocate and ambassador for Sistah Space, adds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDomestic violence is a really misunderstood subject even more complicated when you\u2019re ethnically diverse. Sistah Space is an amazing organisation. It feels like home to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>A Call to Action: Fund Safety, Dignity, and Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sistah Space is urgently seeking to raise <strong>\u00a3350,000<\/strong> to continue its work. Of this, <strong>\u00a3100,000<\/strong> will directly fund the <strong>UK\u2019s first and only refuge<\/strong> designed specifically for Black women survivors of domestic abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founder <strong>Ngozi Fulani<\/strong> says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur services save lives, but we need the funding to expand and reach the women who need us most.
