Speaking out about racism at work has often been fraught with risk, career progression, job security, and reputations could be jeopardised.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn, with its focus on professional identity, challenges this silence in several key ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visibility and Accountability: Unlike other platforms, LinkedIn connects profiles to real names and professional reputations.\u00a0<br>This dynamic reduces the prevalence of anonymous trolling and holds both anti-racists and racists accountable for their statements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shared Experiences: For many Black professionals, LinkedIn offers a platform to articulate experiences of workplace racism, something that was long suppressed due to stigma or fear of retaliation.\u00a0<br>These shared narratives validate the struggles of others and encourage solidarity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Challenging the Status Quo:\u00a0<br>The traditional perception of LinkedIn as solely a professional networking site excluded the lived realities of many workers.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Racism has profoundly impacted career opportunities for ethnically diverse professionals for centuries, from enslavement to the modern ethnicity &nbsp;pay gap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing this legacy is not a departure from professionalism; it is integral to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Trauma of Racism and the Need for Allies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Racism leaves deep scars, not just on careers, but on self-worth and identity. Racism affects recruitment, retention, pay equity, career progression and provision of goods and services, it is intrinsically tied to the workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LinkedIn\u2019s transformation is not just necessary; it is overdue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The platform offers an opportunity to address the structural inequalities that have silenced marginalised voices for far too long.
