The rise in racism, ableism, and exclusion is deeply concerning. Yet, even in difficult times, there are reasons for hope: collective voices speaking out, educators committed to inclusion, and communities showing courage and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this issue, we bring you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Our statement on the increase in racism and hostility across the UK<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Breaking Barriers \u2013 <\/strong>a spotlight on Black neurodivergent learners<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Community resilience <\/strong>projects and EDUK\u2019s ongoing role in training and support<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why education must be at the heart of building fairer futures<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-1-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-2697a35c93785e9e68c0b8647dfe9be2 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\"><strong>EDUK Statement: Division, Racism &amp; Hostility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At EDUK, we are deeply concerned about the current climate in the UK. Far-right mobilisation, racist incidents, and the normalisation of xenophobic rhetoric are on the rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These threats are not abstract; they impact real lives. Just recently, reports emerged of a 9-year-old Black girl in Bristol who was the victim of a racially motivated attack involving an airsoft gun. Such incidents highlight the <strong>direct harm of racist rhetoric<\/strong> and the trauma it leaves behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many Black and Brown people are now <strong>frightened to leave their homes<\/strong> or fearful of harassment in schools, workplaces, and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We are clear:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Racism in any form harms us all<\/strong> \u2013 whether on the streets, in schools, in workplaces, or within policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unity cannot be built on scapegoating<\/strong>. It must be built through <strong>truth-telling, accountability, and solidarity<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Silence is not an option<\/strong>. Leaders, educators, employers, and institutions must act with courage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-1-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-8dd1b3cb6502cbe2fef40b28173e98b0 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Breaking Barriers: Supporting Black Neurodivergent Learners<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education should be a pathway to opportunity, but for too many <strong>Black neurodivergent learners<\/strong>, it remains a system of barriers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Gaps<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Under-identification<\/strong>: Black children with SEND are too often mislabelled as \u201cdisruptive\u201d instead of supported.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exclusions<\/strong>: Black Caribbean pupils are nearly 3x more likely to be permanently excluded than their white peers. For neurodivergent Black learners, the risk is even higher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diagnosis delays<\/strong>: Black children with autism or ADHD are diagnosed later, missing vital early support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Employment outcomes<\/strong>: Only 30% of autistic adults are in work in the UK \u2013 with rates even lower for Black autistic adults.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Everyday Reality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Admissions clouded by bias.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Behaviour misinterpreted due to racial stereotypes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Executive functioning struggles, framed as \u201clack of discipline.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exams that privilege handwriting speed and rote recall, overlooking creative or verbal reasoning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A lack of mentors and role models who share identity and experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cMust Dos\u201d for Change<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Culturally aware early identification<\/strong> of SEND.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Universal Design for Learning (UDL)<\/strong> \u2013 multiple ways to learn and demonstrate knowledge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Representation and role models<\/strong> \u2013 amplifying Black neurodivergent voices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safe and inclusive participation spaces<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tailored transition support<\/strong> \u2013 mentoring, apprenticeships, clear pathways into employment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Accountability and data<\/strong> \u2013 setting measurable goals for change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At EDUK, we are embedding these strategies into our training, resources, and guidance for schools, colleges, and employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-1-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-da41a79f70b318e4ba9975aa1735a6e8 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Building Resilience &amp; Community Power<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside our training and consultancy, we continue to champion spaces where equality and inclusion can thrive. We are proud to see more schools, multi-academy trusts, and organisations adopting our frameworks for anchoring EDI into everyday practice (5Cs\/5Ps Frameworks and FREDDIE Principles) and attending our <strong>courageous conversations<\/strong> about Race evening sessions (next one is 28 October) and embedding equity into their everyday practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By working together, we can dismantle barriers and build resilient, empowered communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Education as Transformation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As John Dewey once said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEducation is not preparation for life; education is life itself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Black neurodivergent learners, this means education must be more than inclusion on paper. It must be <strong>intentional, equitable, and transformative<\/strong>. At EDUK, we are committed to ensuring schools, colleges, and workplaces are equipped to deliver this change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-1-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7a3b6414b322f0b24a8a4f321df34e80 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Word<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are testing times.
