As we approach International Women’s Day on 8th March 2025, I take a moment to reflect on my journey, a journey of resilience, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). This is not just a celebration of the work I have done but a tribute to the people who have supported, inspired, and uplifted me along the way.
A Legacy of Change and Commitment
For over two decades, I have worked relentlessly to challenge systemic inequalities, mentor future change-makers, and advise organisations on embedding meaningful, lasting EDI strategies. My work has transcended industries, from education and governance to public policy and corporate leadership.
I have fought for fairer recruitment practices, facilitated courageous conversations on race and gender, and designed transformative mentoring programmes that empower marginalised individuals to rise into leadership. I have built bridges between communities, organisations, and policymakers to ensure that inclusion is not just a buzzword but a lived reality.
Volunteering, Mentoring, and Advocacy
Beyond my professional work, I have dedicated time to mentoring, volunteering, and supporting those who need it most. Whether guiding young people, coaching professionals, or advocating for systemic change, my belief in equity has shaped every aspect of my engagement.
Through reciprocal mentoring initiatives, I have helped emerging leaders from underrepresented backgrounds navigate organisational structures, build confidence, and access opportunities they were once denied. I have advised employers on making workplaces more inclusive and safer, ensuring that policies translate into real action.
The Ripple Effect: Impacting Generations
My work is not just about organisations and policies it is about people. It is about the countless individuals I have supported, empowered, and uplifted. It is about my children and grandchildren, who have witnessed my passion and dedication and who, in their own ways, carry forward the torch of equity and justice.
To see my family and the next generation stand up for fairness, inclusion, and human rights is my greatest reward. It reaffirms that change is not just something we initiate; it is something we pass on.
Gratitude to Those Who Have Walked With Me
No journey is ever walked alone. Today, I celebrate not only my achievements but also the incredible individuals who have supported me throughout. To my family, friends, colleagues, and mentors thank you for your belief in me. Thank you for the encouragement, the tough conversations, the shared learning, and the unwavering support.
To the activists, educators, and community leaders who have inspired my work your dedication fuels my own. To those who have challenged me, provided feedback, and held me accountable you have helped me grow into the leader I am today.
A Poem for the Changemakers
From early days of fighting fair,
To boardrooms filled with thought and care,
I have stood for voices lost and weak,
And gave them space, a chance to speak.
Not just in words, but acts so bold,
A story of justice fiercely told.
A bridge between the old and new,
Where fairness shines in every view.
Decades passed, but still I stand,
Resilient heart, outstretched hand.
For equity, for love, for light,
A tireless champion of the fight.
Looking Forward
International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate achievements, but it is also a time to recommit to the work ahead. My journey is far from over. I will continue to push boundaries, amplify voices, and strive for a world where equity is the norm, not the exception. To every woman leading change, breaking barriers, and uplifting others this day is for you. To those who support and advocate for equity your efforts are invaluable. Let us celebrate progress while recognising that there is still much to do.
Here’s to the changemakers. Here’s to us. Happy International Women’s Day 2025.
